Volunteers Needed
If you would like to be a volunteer and help with Christmas activities there are several events that you can volunteer for.
On Friday December 16th, collections of donated food will be picked up at area schools. We will meet at the Kroger’s Parking lot at Hwy 70 and Mt. Juliet Rd at 7:30 a.m. and leave in route at 8:00 a.m. Help is needed to follow trucks and help with loading. This requires lifting boxes of food items weighting up to approx. 40 pounds.
On Friday December 16th, help is needed in packing approx. 600 food boxes starting 5:30pm until all boxes are packed. Major Dan Sullenger USMC with the help of Mt. Juliet High School and ROTC students are invaluable each year in accomplishing this task. This is a good opportunity for parents to teach their children about helping those less fortunate.
Food boxes will be delivered to needy families early Saturday morning December 17th starting 7:00 am until all boxes are delivered. Each family receives two boxes so You will need room for a minimum of two boxes in your vehicle. You will be assigned a family or families by a Big Brother member with instructions. This is an experience everyone should have at least once in their life.
Volunteers are needed to help with preparing the Mothers Toy Store on Friday Dec. 16th starting at 5:30 pm and Saturday morning December 17th starting 7:00 am. The Store opens to the public for Mother’s to shop for their children from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. An orientation will be given at 10:00am at the Mt. Juliet Middle School Cafeteria on how to shop for parents children. If you plan to work between 11:00 a.m and 4:00 p.m please try to attend this orientation. You can leave after the orientation and return at whatever time period is best for you for any length of time you wish to work.
The Mother's Toy Store, December 17th
The Mother’s Toy Store will be Saturday December 17th at the Mt. Juliet Middle School Cafeteria (formerly The Mt. Juliet High School next to Charlie Daniels Park) located at 3565 N. Mt. Juliet Road from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no charge for the families to shop. Children are not allowed in the Toy Store while parents are shopping during this time period.
Families are required to Pre-register and may do so at the Charlie Daniels Park Community Center from November 7th thru December 11th from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Applications are also available at the Mt. Juliet Help Center during normal operation hours Monday thru Friday. Pre-registration is essential and required. Application form is a two part form. Applicant to retain yellow copy and present to the Toy Store staff on December 17th.
All participants MUST bring current proof of address such as current utility bill and birth certificates or other identification for each child such as documentation from school, etc; to the toy store when they shop. Social Security cards WILL NOT be accepted as identification. Families that do not register will shop after all pre-registered families have been served and may not receive as many gifts.
Food Baskets, December 16th & 17th
We will be packing food boxes for those less fortunate at the Mt. Juliet Middle School located next to Charlie Daniels Park on Friday night December 16th @ 5:30 p.m. Food boxes will be delivered on Saturday morning December 17th starting at 7:00 a.m. Families receiving food boxes are required to have someone at their residence to receive food boxes from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
